Welcome
Welcome to Southeast EV. The purpose of this site is to share with the world my experience converting a gasoline-powered vehicle to electric power. I have not begun the actual conversion, but I have started my research. I hope one day to provide a service to the public converting vehicles to electric power, but a lot of things need to be worked out first. I will chronicle my experiences here.
You can contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you have any questions (or want to donate anything).
I need several things to get started, and none of them are trivial:
- A vehicle to convert
- A motor
- Control modules
- Machine work
- Batteries
- Books
I have estimated (in my head, and not very properly) that the conversion will cost around $7000, which includes the vehicle itself. We'll just have to see.
Thanks for coming, and I invite you to subscribe to the site so you can keep up with the project. I have to warn you, though - I am very slow and unfocused. This project could take two years. I hope it doesn't, but sometimes I am not in control of everything and projects get delayed. I have not dedicated my life to this; I make my living with computers.
WelcomeWelcome to Southeast EV. Here I will try to chronicle my adventure while converting a gasoline-powered automobile to electric power. I'm very excited about this project, and I'm looking forward to getting started. However, it is going to be slow. If you would like to donate something to the project, I can always use MONEY, and a used car. Okay - I'd take a new car too, but it might be a shame to rip out an engine with 12 miles on it. And the gas tank. And the radiator, exhaust, heater, power steering, and air conditioning. I'll re-use the tires, brakes, steering wheel, and seats, and everything else that goes with making a car roll. Just not the engine. It's simple to convert a vehicle - take out the engine and put in a big electric motor, install the control modules (motor control and battery charging controllers), install and secure the batteries, and we're done! Of course, there are about 1,239,481 steps in-between. That's what you should expect to read about on this website. Somewhere on the front page is a feed button, and that will alllow you to subscribe and get updates when I post articles. I hereby invite you to subscribe. If you have performed your own conversion and haven't told anyone, let me know - I'll keep your secret. I also want to know what hurdles you had to leap over in order to finish. I have many other projects going too, and that will add to the time it will take me to complete this conversion. See the links sidebar for those. |
